Body Piercing

GOLDI GETS HER TONGUE PIERCED

Hi my name is Goldi. I'm 32 and decided 2 get my tongue pierced. It's my 1st body piercing experience, besides my earlobes (I have 7, 5 of which I did myself). I have quite a few tattoos though. I was very nervous, but I love 2 try new things, actually this is nothing new. Africans have been piercing many parts of their bodies for ages, but it's new to me. Anyway, so this is what happened..... Tuesday 05/18/99 I went 2 a tattoo and body piercing spot on Long Island, New York. The charge is $55. The place was very neat and clean, however I didn't realize until later that the man didn't have me rinse my mouth out 1st. ( I was 2 nervous 2 notice) He told me 2 stick my tongue out as far as possible. He then marked the top and bottom of my tongue with a marker and asked me 2 check it out. Then he held my tongue with a metal clamp, gave me a paper towel 2 catch the drool, and asked if I was ready. I closed my eyes as he pushed the needle through very easily and quickly. I was amazed that it didn't hurt at all! He told me the worst was over and screwed the ball on the bottom. Then he gave me all my after care instructions and told me it would take 3-5 days 2 heal. I was afraid 2 look at it. I felt so weird. When I did there was a tiny bit of blood around it. The barbell felt really big in my mouth. I wasn't in pain, but was afraid it was coming so I rushed 2 the store 2 get Listerine 2 gargle with, then rushed home 2 fill my mouth with crushed ice 2 keep the swelling down. At this point, I'm so excited and can't wait 4 it 2 heal so I can show it off. The morning after* I woke up expecting lots of pain like others had described, but there was none, just swelling. So far, I haven't eaten anything, just sucked on ice and gargled. By night I'm starving and feeling sick from the taste of Listerine. I tried 2 eat a cookie (impossible) I tried tomato soup and threw up. Then I tried grits (I had 2 eat something!!) That worked great.
Day 2* Tongue is very swollen and a little sore. Still can't eat much. Still able 2 talk fine though. Continued 2 gargle, suck on ice, and eat grits.
Day 3* Still swollen. Only hurts when I try 2 lift it up 2c the bottom ball. I'm sick of sucking on ice. I need real food!!! I ate mashed potatoes and fish. I had 2 eat very slow and tried 2 keep the food on the side of my mouth. I tried 2 eat broccoli too, but that was 2 hard.
Day 4* Swelling's gone down a little, but still hard 2 eat, but now I am eating regular foods. I just eat slowly and can't totally enjoy it, especially since I have 2 rinse with mouthwash afterwards. I discovered something new at the drug store 2day 2 gargle with. It's called Peroxyl. It's a maximum oral cleanser that's supposed 2 speed up healing and keep the mouth really clean. I love it! My mouth felt great after using it, much fresher without the harsh taste of Listerine. I really feel like it's helping. I'm getting impatient, so I called a friend who has one 2 ask how long it took 4 her tongue 2 feel normal again. She said between 7-9 days so I didn't feel so bad, but I can't wait 'till this is over with. I'm trying not 2 complain because I wanted it done so I have 2 pay the price. Day 5* Today my tongue is STILL swollen. I am able 2 move it around a lot more though. Still not able 2 play with it. I'm afraid 2 try. Eater better, but won't be comfortable 'till swelling is completely gone. Day 6* Today very little swelling and soreness. Eating better, But not back 2 normal yet. I love it already though. This hasn't been easy, but I feel it's worth it. Tomorrow will be a week, so we'll see what happens..
A week later..I feel great. Actually forgot about my piercing when I went to eat. Still eating carefully, takes getting used to, but I love it! Now...What will be my next new adventure??? ;)
